Hip Replacement Surgery

Whether it is playing a round of golf, taking that daily walk with your neighbor or tailgating with your friends and family, most Americans are staying active longer than their parents did. Knee arthritis can get in the way of that active lifestyle many people wish to have. Advancements in knee replacement surgery and recovery have made it possible to continue to enjoy the activities that make you happy.

Services Offered

  • Total hip replacement - Total hip replacement surgery is a procedure done to replace the worn cartilage of the hip joint. The ball and socket are replaced with metal, plastic and ceramic implants that eliminate the bone on bone contact of an arthritic hip joint. This in turn relieves pain, restores function, improves mobility and increases quality of life. Dr. Howell uses the anterior approach for over 90% of his total hip replacement surgeries which uses a smaller incision and does not cut through any muscle. This can allow for a quicker recovery with fewer restrictions after surgery. Some patients may go home as soon as the next day after surgery.

  • Revision hip replacement -  Some patients have problems associated with a hip replacement. These problems can include infection, loose implants, recurrent dislocations and pain. Dr. Howell has had extra fellowship training to manage and surgically correct these issues.
